Last Thursday, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a federal memo officially restoring visitation in U.S. nursing homes. The CMS is commanding these elder care facilities to allow visitation when a facility has had no new COVID-19 outbreaks for at least 14 days, and the community positivity rate is below 10%.

A possible strike by teamsters over a company’s coronavirus security protocols could affect dozens of Senior Living communities in Arizona. More than 200 warehouse employees and US Foods deliverers who are members of Teamsters Local 104 in Phoenix have voted “crushingly” for what they claim is the non-adherence of US Food to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 safety guidelines.

And although this has been a not widely spoken subject for years, most people nowadays have heard mentions to Elder Abuse and Neglect, but they may not always comprehend the difference between the two.

The California Department of Social Services released information about cases and deaths at eldercare facilities. The data reveals that at least 41% of all known COVID-19 deaths (as of April) in California occurred among residents and staff of nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Since then, the number of nursing home deaths jumped 51% in eight days from April 23 to May 1, and deaths in assisted living facilities nearly doubled between April 20 and May 3.
