Caregiver Arrested After Hidden Camera Shows Alleged Elder Abuse
Earlier this month, Costa Mesa Police Department officials arrested a female caregiver for alleged Elder Abuse after being caught on surveillance video repeatedly beating a 91-year-old Costa Mesa woman left in her care.

Is Elder Abuse a Felony or Misdemeanor?
Unfortunately, elder abuse and elder neglect are like a growing epidemic in our society. When you place your elderly loved one into long-term residential care, or even employ in-home care, you’re trusting that their caregiver has their best interests at heart. You’re expecting that the person giving such care has the training and experience to make sure your loved one’s needs are met. Sadly, this isn’t always the case, and more and more caregivers are abusing their patients.

Even since Medicare was created, Nursing Homes have been the main form of residential long-term care in the country. They offer 24/7 nursing care, supervision, help with daily activities, meals, and medication administration to older adults who cannot manage independently. They also provide rehabilitative services to assist those recovering from a specific acute condition, such as a stroke or hip fracture.

The CMS Issued a Federal Memo Restoring Nursing Home Visits
Last Thursday, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a federal memo officially restoring visitation in U.S. nursing homes. The CMS is commanding these elder care facilities to allow visitation when a facility has had no new COVID-19 outbreaks for at least 14 days, and the community positivity rate is below 10%.
